Before the Throne of God Above

Today I am making another card for Joan's Touch featuring a die, the color black, some sort of embellishment and at least one item that may be purchased at Joan's Gardens. I chose the first verse of one of my all-time favorite Christian songs written by Charitie Lees Bancroft (1841-1923), an Irish American hymn writer who wrote the song, which she called The Advocate, in 1863. The music is by Vikki Cook. Here are the lyrics--so, so very powerful:

The Advocate

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea.
A great High Priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Saviour died
My sinful soul is counted free.
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there the risen Lamb,
My perfect spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of glory and of grace,
One with Himself I cannot die.
My soul is purchased by His blood,
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ my Saviour and my God!

If you have never heard this song, you can listen to it here.

So, on with the card...

The background paper is actually a picture of a multi-colored scarf made by a friend in Israel. The frame is cut from black, and to bring in more of a bright feeling, I stamped the computer generated sentiment with some yellow ink. The butterfly is sprayed with Krylon Cherry Glitter Mist. A bow is added on the lower left.

Here is the card:

All of these may be purchased at Joan's Gardens:
  • Spellbinders Adorning Squares
  • Frantic Stamper Monarch Butterfly
  • Viva Creme Pearl Pen
  • Bow Easy

Psalm 91:1-2

Today's card is a project for Joan's Touch. We needed to make something with a stencil, two patterns of paper and at least one item that can be purchased at Joan's Gardens. Items in blue may be purchased there.

I only have one stencil, and that is Spellbinders Butterfly; I mixed up some homemade paste using white paint, talcum powder and glue, then put the stencil down on white paper and applied the paste. The first one I made was too thick and it was discarded. This second one was thinner and a better fit for this project. When you do this, make sure that the paste is completely dry before continuing. This piece was placed on a blue on blue polka dot paper and adhered to white cardstock. The lovely sentiment that you see is from Word Art Wednesday, which was featured some time ago last year. It was printed out and then cut with Spellbinders Labels Eighteen and backed with a blue oval cut out. Next, two butterflies were punched out with a Stampin' Up punch from the same blue polka dot backing paper plus another blue textured paper. They have Viva Perle Pen Liquid Pearls on their bodies. (Can't seem to help myself when it comes to using liquid pearls!) A blue ribbon and bow are run across the bottom of the card.

Here it is:

And the lovely sentiment from Word Art Wednesday:

Here is a couple of close up shots of the textured stenciling:

Anniversary Lovebirds

I made an anniversary card for my daughter and son-in-law today. Hearts and flowers are always in order for this type of card, so that's the theme.

I used a paper doily from a local restaurant (again!). These are such pretty doilies, that I asked the waitress where they get them. She said they are from Sysco, which is a restaurant supply company. I told her how pretty I thought they were, but that the one on my plate was kind of messed up. She offered to bring me some more and after being gone for a moment, returned with a little sack full of them!  Wow!  I am blessed!

On top of the doily is a Cricut heart cut from the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. Two little birds with branches were punched from a Stampin' Up punch, then assembled and "glittered." A Spellbinders Ribbon Banner was die cut and the sentiment is by Our Daily Bread - Hyacinth. I made the card, but then decided it was a little too CAS, so more embellishments were added. Tell me which one you like the best!

Here is the first card:

So, roses from Spellbinders Bitty Blossoms were added along with some foliage from a Martha Stewart 5-Leaf Punch; tiny little red eyes were added to the birds with some liquid squeeze on paint. Here is the second card:

White and Silver Wedding Card

During the last week two people called me and asked for wedding cards. One which I had on hand was not a wedding card, but was white on white, so with a quick change of the sentiment, it was a wedding card.

However, to not run into this again, it might be a good idea to have at least a couple of wedding cards ready, so that is what today's post is. This is a new creation, not the one that was re-worked to become a wedding card.  :o)

The EF is from Paper Studio and is called Quatrain; the silver piece is Cuttlebug Anna Griffin Matelasse Flourish; the rolled rose is Spellbinders Spiral Blossom One, the leaves are Cheery Lynn Mini Fanciful Flourish and Martha Stewart 5-Leaf Punch. The sentiment is printed from my computer and is mounted with a double frame from Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Ovals; I added a Memory Box Pippi Butterfly and a sparkly white bow. Liquid pearls adorn the four corners.

It is hard to tell, but the embossed layer is sprayed with iridescent spray for some sparkle; the rose is sprayed with silver glitter mist and the flourish is sprayed with Krylon Looking Glass Spray paint. (This was the first time to use this and it was not what I was expecting, so I sprayed it with some silver glitter mist to make it more like what I had in mind.

Here is the card; sorry that the picture does not really show off the silver tones very well:

A Black and White Thank You

Today's card took some twists and turns; the idea that I started out with morphed into something else totally different.

The same time I bought the blue and cream shelf liner at the 99 cent store, I also bought some black and white shelf liner. Today's card uses that as a background. I also used two Memory Box dies:  Tiffany Frame and Cherise Label. Today I got a new Frantic Stamper die, Monarch Butterfly. It is a really nice size for cards, and I love all the detail. I cut it out of white cardstock and glued and glittered it. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up. I have the matching Sizzix frames but could not find them, so I just fussy cut it out and pop dotted it to the upper right of the frame.

Here is the card; the colors did not come out well. The background is actually black and white and not grey and light grey:

I attempted to capture the glitter on the butterfly:

Sweet Baby Girl

A new baby girl arrived in our family this week, and of course, it was a great opportunity to make a fun card to celebrate the happy occasion.

The paper stacks used for this card were Embellish by Dena and the polka dotted papers that I had in my stash. The cute little animals were punched out of one of the pages in the Embellish papers, and the sentiment was also on one of the pages of that stack. I had been sewing with pink thread and had my machine out, so it was a great opportunity to put some zig-zag stitching on the card. It was a lot of fun, but not something I do very often just because it is extra work to pull out my sewing machine and get it threaded up with the right color of thread. But it really adds a sweet touch to cards. A 1 1/2 inch punch was used on the animals and they are attached with pop dots; the sentiment was attached with pop dots, also. A yellow ribbon adds the final touch.

Here is the card:

Negative Cutout

Today's card was another experiment which came out nicely, I think. I started out with guidelines from Joan's Touch where we are to make a card using an EF (perhaps with inking in some form), a sentiment, butterfly and an item sold at Joan's Gardens. Items you may purchase there are in this color.

The Spellbinders Enchanted EF was used; after running it through the eBosser, it was inked with pink ink, but--oh, my! My pink ink is so in your face hot pink! I toned it down with some yellow ink run over the same places with a brayer. This created a softer look. Then the whole piece was sprayed with Krylon Clear Spray to give it some shine.

Next, a negative cutout of a frame was placed on top of the embossed piece in a color that was in my stash. A Stampabilities "Palm of His Hand" stamp was used with the same blend of pink and yellow inks and the edges were inked also in the same inks. It is attached with pop dots. An orange rolled rose was doctored up with pink ink on the edges and placed in the lower left corner; Martha Stewart Five Leaf punches were placed around it.

I had some vellum that had been embossed, but had not turned out as well as expected that I had from another project, and a piece had just been lying around looking at me....  I punched a butterfly out of it with a SU Butterfly punch for the top layer of the butterfly, then two plain layers from the same punch. They were also inked with pink and yellow, glued together, then embellished with liquid pearls.

Here is the card:

This is a picture of the background sprayed with clear gloss. In retrospect, another coat or two of the gloss would probably have made it even more shiny:

Rejoice in the Lord Always

Today's card is inspired by some aqua and white shelf liner I found at the dollar store; as an added bonus, it has adhesive on the back when you peel off the protective paper backing. This makes it super easy to adhere it to the cardstock. It is laid on a piece of darker aqua, and a piece of white vellum is laid on top of it. The sentiment is from Fred She Said, ("Uplifting Sentiments") is laid in between the shelf liner and the vellum. Special vellum adhesive is used so that it does not show up on the vellum. (Pretty neat stuff! When I was applying it, it looked like it would be visible, but after laying it down on the intended surface, the adhesive completely disappeared.)

Here is the card:

These were also used in making the card:
  • Spellbinders Les Papillons Two
  • EK Success Border Punch
  • Viva Ice White Pearl Pen (These Viva pearl pens are AMAZING! They are so much fun to use.)
  • Bow Easy

Altered Project

Today I am posting an altered project for the challenge at Joan's Touch. We must alter something and use at least one item sold at Joan's Gardens. (Items in pink may be purchased there.)

Last weekend I was at a Craftpalooza, which is a gathering of the most fun ladies you could ever hope to be around. We did some "make and takes," and among those were the canvas I am featuring today, with the sentiment, "Happy is a way of life."

We are to alter them using our own spin on the canvas and bring them back next time we meet up, which will be in two or three months. I thought it would be a great time to work on it this week because of Joan's challenge.

This is the canvas we took home:

I used a Martha Stewart Vine Branch punch for the leaves on the right hand side and along the bottom of the canvas. (The leaves are actually a kind of lime green color, but the color did not come out very well in the photo. The "flowers" are pink buttons; the butterflies are double punched from an EK Success butterfly punch out of pink cardstock, and the bodies of the butterflies are embellished with Viva Bright White Liquid Pearls. The bow is made from a 3" wide ribbon that is white, pink, blue and green. A button tied with a lime green bow embellishes the ribbon bow:

Sparkly Poinsettia

Today's Christmas card features a Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia on a Cricut Paper Lace background. I have used the sentiment from http://heartfulstamper.blogspot.com several times before, but it is so perfect, that I will be using it on lots of cards this year. Lots of glitter on the flower brings in a dash of sparkle, and a gold bow finishes the card. Here it is:
