Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room

Today I am posting another Christmas card.

This one, like so many projects, was a bit of an experiment, but I am happy with how it turned out. The experiment part was using a piece of gold fabric glued onto a piece of white cardstock, then running it through a Paper Studio Swirls EF. The embossing came out very distinctly, as you can see in the picture below:

I cut a Christmas foliage piece from Teresa Collins December 25th Cricut cartridge and added some little 3-D paint berries to it. Then a red poinsettia (Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia) was added; it is spray painted with sparkly red glitter paint, and the center is made with a gold liquid pearl. The sentiment is printed from my computer onto a frame, and attached with pop dots:

Purple and White Birthday

Yesterday morning my husband was looking out the window into our back yard and said that he thought he saw two kittens. I went out to investigate, and sure enough, there were three precious little abandoned kittens in our yard. I scooped them up and took them to Petco to find out the best way to care for them. The kind lady there estimated their age to be about 4 1/2 to 5 weeks old. They are SO CUTE!!!!! Three little boys, yellow, grey and black tabbies. They had a mild case of fleas, so this afternoon I took them outside and gave them a bath in Dawn dishwashing liquid (at the suggestion of the Petco employee). All clean now. That stuff really does kill fleas!

Anyone want a FREE KITTEN?

This evening I am posting a card for the challenge at Joan's Touch, which requires us to use purple and white, distressed edges, something from nature and products that are sold at Joan's Gardens. Items printed in purple may be purchased there.

I don't have a distressing tool, so I tore the edges of the purple piece that is the background for the card. It was randomly stamped and brayed with purple ink to make it even more multi-toned, then it was run through at Spellbinders Whimsy EF and attached to the white cardstock base. This was a different effect from braying it with purple ink after it has been run through the EF. A piece of white tulle is knotted and placed along the bottom of the card; the rose is die cut from Spellbinders Spiral Blossom One using white paper with splashes of sparkly black, and the foliage is from a Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish die. The sentiment is printed in purple ink which was printed from my computer and a punch was used to round the corners, giving it a softer appearance. The butterfly is from a Memory Box Pippi Butterfly die; it was cut and then glued and glittered.

Here is the card:

Christmas - May the Love of Christ...2

Today is another Christmas card post. It seems that I am getting an early start this year, and that will be less stressful come December.

The first layer is white cardstock, then two layers of gold tulle were glued onto black cardstock. A white poinsettia (Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia) was placed at the top along with some Pine Branches (Martha Stewart Pine Branch Punch). A drop of gold liquid pearl is added to the center of the flower (Viva Pearl Pen). The sentiment is from http://heartfulstamper.blogspot.com and is printed from my computer; it is framed with Marianne Anja's Vintage Frame LRO 272, which was cut in white cardstock and spray painted gold. A tiny gold bow is placed at the bottom.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto Us a Child Is Born

I seem to be on a roll making Christmas cards, and that is a very good thing. I am entering this post at Joan's Touch where we are challenged to make a card with more than one layer, no stamps and a product sold at Joan's Gardens. (Items in red may be purchased there.)

The card has a deep purple and white background which was placed on a white cardstock base. Next, a piece of white cardstock that I re-purposed (stamped on the other side with a digi I did not want to use) was sprayed with purple glitter mist, then a Spellbinder's rectangular die (Fleur De Lis) was run through my E-Bosser, framing a wonderful computer-printed sentiment from Word Art Wednesday, and this was placed on top of the glittered paper. The silver ribbon (also re-purposed) made with Bow Easy, actually has three loops, but in trying to manipulate the loops so that they all showed up, the appearance of the bow suffered, so I settled for a two-loop look to the bow.

Here is the card:

I love this sentiment which I got from Word Art Wednesday last year:

Christmas - May the Love of Christ...

Today I made another Christmas card using a new EF, a doily from a local restaurant (kept it nice and clean and repurposed it!), a poinsettia die and a sentiment from the web. I am entering it at Joan's Touch where we are challenged to make a card with more than one layer, no stamps and a product sold at Joan's Gardens. (Items in red may be purchased there.)

Using gold ink, the raised part of the embossing is colored using a brayer; next, a gold ribbon was tied into a bow and attached diagonally to the bottom right hand corner of the embossed layer. The doily was cut in half and glued together, staggering the pattern. The sentiment is from http://heartfulstamper.blogspot.com and is printed from my computer; the edges are inked in gold, and the piece is attached with pop dots. Next, a layered poinsettia was added and gold liquid pearls were placed in the center.

Here is the card:

The following were used to make this card:

  • Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia
  • Darice Scrolls EF
  • Viva Pearl Pen Gold Liquid Pearls
  • Doily

Warm Wishes

Today's card is for Christmas, and it is going to be a lot easier this year getting them out because starting to make them early means less stress close to Christmas.

I used a Cricut cartridge that I've not used very much--Winter Wonderland, and played around with it a bit. The berries were cut out also, but they looked a bit flat, so I embellished them with liquid red 3-D paint, which made the berries stand out a lot better and have a lot more dimension. The sentiment is from a Hero Arts stamp set called "Heavens Rejoice." The red bow was glued and glittered for some extra sparkle. Pop dots were used for added dimension.

Here is the card:

For You

Today's card is more on the whimsical side. Mostly I make more elegant styles, but looking at the glittery polka dot background paper and the stamped flowers, whimsical seemed to fit better than elegant.

Starting with white cardstock, a green layer was added, then a pinkish red layer, then the glittery polka dot paper. Three large flowers were stamped, punched and colored with a pink marker; two smaller flower punches were attached to each flower and a gold rhinestone brad was added to each one. Below the flowers is a white embossed piece; foliage was die cut in white cardstock, then inked with two different colors of green ink, then placed around the flowers. A three-looped raffia bow was put at the bottom of the flowers. The larger butterfly was stamped with VersaMark ink, sprinkled with light blue embossing powder, then heat embossed. The smaller butterfly was punched, then glittered. The sentiment was stamped, then die cut. All of the flowers, butterflies and sentiment were attached with pop dots.

Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella

Today's card is centered around a die that was purchased a long time ago, but was never used--an umbrella. I didn't want to make a card that was negative, like saying, "into every life a little rain must fall," or something of that nature that would imply that the recipient was having a hard time in life. And a card that said, "April showers bring May flowers" would have only been good if it were sent this month. That would have been too restrictive; so, "Let a SMILE be your umbrella" was maybe a better choice.

Like most of my cards, there were lots of detours and changes in the original plans. There is a really cute gingham ribbon in pastel spring colors that was supposed to be used on the card, but in the end, there was no place to put it, so that idea got scrapped. And other ideas that did not really work out got laid to one side. Does that ever happen to anyone else?????

A grey background paper was used for a "rainy sky," and it was embossed with a diagonal striped EF (something else that had been purchased but never used!) to help with the effect of falling rain coming down in a slanted direction. Glitter was also applied in a slanted pattern to resemble rain in the sky and on the flowers in front of the picket fence. Grass and greenery were also placed in front of the fence, and in the middle of the punched flowers a drop of pink glitter glue was added. The sentiment is printed from my computer and punched out with a frame punch; the same frame punch was used to cut out two yellow pieces that were joined together to make a backing for the white sentiment frame; they are attached with pop dots. Butterflies were put on the left side of the card to balance out the colors and layout.

Here is the card:

Gold and Silver Elegance

Hi, Crafters,

I am really honored to be a guest designer for Crafting By Designs this month. The challenge is my favorite--Anything Goes--and it is always interesting to see what happens when the sky is the limit and creative juices start to flow. Isn't it fun to see what others come up with, too? Pop on over to the website and enter your inspired work there.

The card I am showing you today was inspired by a favorite combination of mine, which is the very regal gold and silver color scheme.

Starting out with white cardstock, a silver paper was added. It was not quite pizzazzy enough, so I sprayed it with some silver glitter mist. A 1 1/2 inch wide ribbon is run horizontally across the middle of the card, then on top of that is a gold die cut piece. The sentiment is printed from my computer, then punched out. A silver frame is added to the sentiment, which is attached with brads.

One of the most fun things to work with in die cutting is aluminum foil. After experimenting, what works best for me is four layers of foil. It gives a nice finished piece that is bendable, yet strong. This was what was used for the butterfly. Gold liquid pearls also adorn the body of the butterfly.

Here is the card:

I used these tools in making the card:

  • Anna Griffin Cuttlebug Flourish Medallion Die
  • Spellbinders Wonderful Wings Die Set
  • Stampin' Up Frame Punch
  • Stampin' Up Coordinating Silver Frame with Silver Brads
  • Silver Ribbon
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Silver Glitter Mist Spray

Classic White on White

Today I wanted to go a bit off the well-traveled path and make a white-on-white card. The way it is made is pretty easy to see, so I won't give you a blow by blow detail of it. My newest thing is liquid pearls, and almost every card that has been made lately has them. They are so fun to work with and seem to give such an elegant touch, don't you think? Other favorites are butterflies and bows, and it is hard to resist the temptation to put them on every card.

Here is today's card:

These tools were used to make the card:

Cuttlebug: Anna Griffin Flower Vine, Anna Griffin Matelasse EF
Just Rite:  CR-03885 Grand Sentiments Stamp
Sizzix: Scalloped Oval Die
Spellbinder: Les Papillions Two Die
Liquid Pearls
Versa Mark Ink
