Pink Roses and Polka Dots

Today I was into using scraps left over from other projects. Years ago I got a set of note cards with pretty embossed flowers; there are three sets, each with a different floral theme. Since I didn't use them back then and I make pretty much all my own cards now, it was a good time to recycle them. You can see below the lovely pink rose floral theme on the lower half of the card. The upper part is pink polka dotted paper which has been embossed with a Paper Studio Swirls EF. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up, Avant Garden; it is die cut with a Sizzix faux stitched oval die. A double-looped hand-tied bow finishes the card.

Monochromatic Blue Birthday

I finished making a card today for my sil who is having a birthday on Monday. She has beautiful blue eyes, so I went with a monochromatic blue theme.

These were used to make the card:

  • Spellbinders Bitty Blossoms; Sprigs
  • Martha Stewart Small Pine Branch Punch
  • Crafter's Companion Happy Birthday Die
  • Lace
  • Glitter Mist (you can't see the sparkle, but it's there)

Masculine Card #2

Making masculine cards is really outside my comfort zone, but because of the need for masculine cards sent to our military posts, I am pushing my limits.  Is anyone else having trouble finding stamps that are masculine appropriate? If you know of some, please let me know...

Today's card is made using a Stampin' Up Lovely as a Tree stamp with two dies, Sizzix Stitched Squares and Sue Wilson Madison Square. I dabbed ink onto the tree with a Q-Tip using green and brown; I rubbed the tip on plain paper to dull the color so that it would not be very intense. The background is made with Spellbinders Basket Weave EF. I used four layers of aluminum foil and ran it through my Big Shot, cut it down to size, and used a sponge applicator to put on brown acrylic paint over the entire surface. This gave it an aged appearance which looks very masculine. A green grosgrain ribbon adds extra interest.

Tip:  Next time I do this, I will glue the foil layers together, as they had a tendency to separate.

Sympathy Card

A dear friend of mine lost her battle with cancer last week; she will be sorely missed by so many people. I made a card to send to her family members, as I am sure they will be bombarded with so many kind thoughts during their time of bereavement, this will be one of many sentiments they will receive.

I used a Darice Julia's Garden EF for the background, rounded all the edges of the card and used a Stampin' Up Heartfelt Blossoms set to stamp the flowers and the sentiment. The white part of the card is sprayed with shimmer mist, but it is so subtle that my camera didn't pick up the sparkles very well. There is a glimpse of the sheen in the second picture below. The card is finished with a knotted ribbon at the bottom, and accented with half pearls.

Masculine Card

Hello, Crafters,

Here I am again with another masculine card; it is simple in design and can be used for any occasion.

I used Stampin' Up "Lovely as a Tree" for the image and used a cotton swab to dry brush on some color with brown and green inks. The die cut squares are from Sizzix Stitched Squares and Sue Wilson Madison Square. I used two different square dies because there seems to be too much distance between the edges in nested die sets (does that make sense?) In other words, the frame for the smaller die cut is much larger that the cut that is being framed, and takes up too much real estate on the card. That is why I used two different square sets; the frame is much smaller and more suited to the size of the card.

The green background is embossed with a Darice Basket Weave EF; the card is finished with a flat rustic beige ribbon knot.

Military Card #3

Since there is such a demand for masculine cards at our military posts, I have made another one to send off.  I may make several of these; it would also be a good card for Father's Day.

It is made with two Stampin' Up sets:  Sky's the Limit and Lovely as a Tree. I cut random cloud patterns out of cardstock and sponged blue ink over the templates. I had to fussy cut the airplane; it was stamped on white cardstock, so to make it blend in with the background, I also sponged it with blue ink. The sentiment is die cut with SU Rose Garden Thinlit frame.

Note:  If you would like to send cards to one of these organizations, please leave a comment asking for contact information and I will gladly forward that to you.

Military Card #2

Hello, Crafters,

I made another card for my friend Jill who sends them off to military posts.  These cards are collected and are like a free Hallmark card store to military personnel; they can choose a card to send home to friends or family or sweethearts, or to send to someone else in the military.

Jill said they have lots of feminine cards, but are desperate for more masculine designs, so today's post is my attempt at that.

I used random parts of background stamps to make a kind of collage; the sentiment is from Stampin' Up and is called "I Think You're Great."  It is die cut with Sizzix Faux Stitched Circles and mounted with sticky dimensionals. A red knotted ribbon finishes the card:
