Floral Birthday

Hi, Fellow Crafters!

Today I made a birthday card for a very sweet family member. Her birthday is in about 3 1/2 weeks, but I have been thinking about the composition for some time now, and wanted to move forward with it.

I cut a negative frame by using a Cricut cartridge, cut the paper to size, then ran it through an embossing folder. Another piece of white paper was run through a lattice die, which was attached to the back of the embossed frame; then to the back of that was attached some multi-colored, glittery paper.

A corner embellishment was die cut and placed in the upper left hand corner; flowers were punched, along with foliage punches and dies and placed around the frame, and in the center of each flower is a liquid pearl. The sentiment was printed from my computer and backed with blue paper; both the sentiment and the backing were trimmed with a small corner rounder punch; they were mounted with pop dots. A little yellow butterfly with three liquid pearls along the body finishes the card. It is also coated with gold glitter glue.

Tools used:
  • Cricut:  Elegant Edges Cartridge
  • Spellbinders:  Fancy Lattice
  • Cuttlebug: Swiss Dots EF
  • Cheery Lynn:  Lace Corner Deco B, Mini Fanciful Flourish
  • Memory Box:  Pippi Butterfly
  • Paper Studio:  Small Flower Punch
  • Small Corner Rounder Punch
  • Martha Stewart: Five Leaf Punch
  • Liquid Pearls
  • Gold Glitter Glue
  • Multi-colored Glitter Paper (Michael's)

Here is the card:

The Lord Bless You and Keep You (Numbers 6:24-25)

The card I am posting today is an attempt at a vintage style, which I do not do very often. So many beautiful vintage cards are out there; seems that it is hard for me to get into that groove.

However, having said that, today was an experiment in that vintage genre of cards. The base cardstock is ivory, overlaid with a Victorian damask paper which was inked with orange and pink inks. (It had an ivory background to begin with.) The sentiment is also stamped onto ivory cardstock in a mixture of pink and orange inks to make a kind of coral color. The roses are made of vellum which is stamped in the same two colors of inks; underneath the ribbon and bow is a layer of tulle, also inked. There was a little boo boo which I attempted to fix. Do you see the liquid pearls on the upper left? When I was taking a picture of the card, my iPhone camera slipped out of my hands and landed on one of the wet liquid pearls. Ugh! It looked like the whole card was ruined, but I wiped the ruined, smashed pearl off and put a butterfly over the spot where the liquid pearl was smeared. It is glittered, as are the two smaller butterflies in the upper right and middle left of the card. The green leaves are punched.

After looking at the card, it seemed to need more; nothing says vintage (to me, at least) like dried foliage and/or dried tiny flowers. I rummaged through some things I had and added a little bit of dried embellishments for an extra touch of vintage.

Here is the card:

Christmas - Philippians 2:6-7

Today I am posting a card with a Scripture that may not have been a traditional verse used on a Christmas card, but I thought it was so appropriate.

Starting with white cardstock, a black layer was added, then a layer of aluminum foil run through an EF. The sentiment is printed from my computer on white cardstock (it looks sort of pink in the picture, but it is really white!), and cut with a Cricut cartridge; the frame is cut from a black paper from the same cartridge, and it is glued and glittered. The glitter came out looking blue, and that seemed to go well with the rest of the card (happy accident!). The card is finished with a silver glittery bow that also picks up a blue color in some of the sparkly places.

These were used to make the card:
  • Paper Studio Curling Ribbons EF
  • Aluminum Foil (4 thicknesses)
  • Cricut Elegant Edges Cartridge
  • Silver Ribbon
  • Blue Liquid Pearls

Spring Birthday

Hello, Fellow Crafters!

Today I made a spring birthday card using blues and yellows.

Starting with white cardstock, I used another white piece on top of that which was run through an EF. Next is a pattern cut with my Cricut machine from the Paper Lace cartridge. The sentiment is stamped and mounted with dimensional stickies; the flowers were snipped from a bunch bought at Michael's, and add a very pronounced 3-D effect; each flower center has a large rhinestone set in the middle for eye-catching sparkle. A yellow grosgrain bow is placed below the flowers. From the same Cricut cartridge I cut a two-layered butterfly (for more added dimension) and glittered the top layer for another punch of bling. It is also attached with a pop dot.

Here is the card:

Today's Joy

Today I chose two free digis that were generously offered by Miss Kate's Cuttables (the cute little birdie) and the wonderful sentiment from Create with TLC.

I used white cardstock and inked some green around the edges; next is layered an orange plaid paper, then a lattice cut from the Edge to Edge cartridge on my Cricut machine. The little birdie is accented with orange and yellow chalks and mounted with two different orange papers and dimensional stickies. The sentiment is similarly mounted, and a green gingham bow finishes the project. This is a birthday card for a red-headed friend of mine, done especially in colors she will like. Hope it will make her smile.  :o)

Rose, Bow and Butterfly Birthday

I was challenged today with a blog (http://stamping-fantasies.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/5th-blogaversary-celebration.html), a 5th Blogversary that had guidelines suggesting that we make a card with our favorite thing on it. Brenda, the blog owner, is giving scrumptious prizes to winners of her contest!

Well, if you are like me, it is a hard thing to pinpoint exactly one favorite thing, so I narrowed it down to a few.  :o)

I almost cannot resist putting butterflies and bows on a card. Butterflies mean new life to me--a new beginning; second chance; beauty and joy. And bows are just so much fun and seem to put a final element on a card that finishes it in a special way. And if you have butterflies, it's probably a good thing to put at least one flower on the card, right?

So those are my favorite things.

These are the tools used to make the card:

  • Spellbinders Fancy Lattice, Spiral Blossom One
  • Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish
  • Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch
  • Stampin' Up Bloomin' Marvelous Stamp Set, Four Frames Stamp Set, Coordinating Punch
  • Gingham Ribbon
  • Cuttlebug Swiss Dots EF

The Star Guided them to Bethlehem

Here I am today with another Christmas card. Last year I sent out 38 cards, and it was a bit hectic towards the goal date of December 2nd to send them out. Lots of work toward the end of that time period making cards. This year I hope it will be different. So far nine cards are made, and if just three are made each month, it will all be done before December comes.

White cardstock was used as a base, then a black frame was die cut and sprayed with iridescent glitter spray. On top of that I sprayed some E6000 spray glue and sprinkled on some glitter that has the look and consistency of sugar. I think it looks like a night sky with millions of lesser stars as a backdrop for the Great Star, or it could be falling snow. The white star is a Cricut cut out, and each individual star piece is glittered with a fine translucent glitter from Stampin' Up. The different layers of stars are each elevated with dimensional stickies.

The sentiment is printed out from my computer and the corners are rounded with a corner rounder punch. It, too, is attached with dimensional stickies.

Here is the card:

Little Hummingbird with Petunias

Today's card is a little birdie birthday card done in mostly reds and pinks.

Starting out with white cardstock, a reddish pink plaid paper is laid down; next is an embossed white paper, then a red paper, then finally, the focal point of the card. The precious little hummingbird with petunias is from a Fred She Said collection that I won from Crafting by Designs; isn't it a cute little digi? So grateful to this website to have chosen me as a winner! The petunias and the hummingbird's throat are accentuated with glitter glue and an additional sprinkle of glitter is added on top of that for an added punch, because almost everything is better with glitter, don't you think? This is elevated with pop dots. The sentiment is double elevated with pop dots. A red ribbon and double-looped bow are placed at a diagonal at the bottom, and little red paint dots accent the upper left corner and right hand side of the image.

Here is the card:

Christ the Savior Is Born

Today I wanted to post a card that goes a little "out of the box." Recently my daughter and son-in-law moved, and her dad, sister and I helped her unpack and get things organized. Her sister did a great job of putting down shelf liner in the pantry and had some left over. She was going to pitch it, but I saw potential in the scraps. You can see in the picture below that it is clear, ribbed plastic shelf liner, and it adds a striped textured element to the card.

This is a Christmas card. Last year I got a little loopy trying to make all my cards for an early mail-out. I started in August, and should have started sooner. I am thankful for those sites that encourage us to make our Christmas cards all year long so that we don't get more last-minute pressure to get them all done when we have so many other issues to deal with. So here is my Christmas card for today...

Starting with white cardstock, I laid down a black layer, then a black and white glittery paper, then the shelf liner. The sentiment is printed from my computer and framed with Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Ovals dies. Glitter is around the edges and also on the surface of the white sentiment. The white bow finishes the Christmas card:

Here is a closeup of the "ribbing" created by the shelf liner:

A Little Birdie Told Me

Today's card is a birthday creation made from a stamp I have had for quite a while but have never used. Starting out with white cardstock, a bright yellow layer is added, then a white layer, then a layer that I hope looks like striped wallpaper. If you put on your "make believe" hat, you can look out the window to an outside scene of two birds sitting on a telephone wire, and the caption below it says, "A little birdie told me..." The stamps are from Stampin' Up. To resemble a sky, I dabbed light blue ink on the white background and colored the birds with a marker. The window (Poppy Stamps Small Madison Window) is elevated from the bird background with pop dots. A small pink ribbon and bow are added on the right.

Closeup of the window:

On the inside of the card, the sentiment continues, "It's your birthday!"
