A Rosy Thank You

Today's card was made for a lady who is a complete stranger, who showed me such unexpected kindness. I took a feral cat that was sick and badly injured into the vet to have him neutered. He had been in so many fights that his face and neck were scratched and bleeding; on top of that he had mange, and probably some serious diseases. This kind lady offered to pay to have him tested for feline leukemia, which would have been big bucks for me to pay out of pocket. She works at an animal shelter in another city. As it turned out, according to the vet, the poor little guy was so sick that he could not have survived the neutering surgery and she recommended that he be put down, which I did. So sad, but he was really suffering. The kind lady gave me her card, so I sent her this thank you note.

These were used to make the card:

Die-Namics Mini Hybrid Heirloom Rose - A favorite because it is easy to make a pretty rose from this die, and the end result is a nice size for an A2 card...
Spellbinders Ribbon Banners
Martha Stewart Branch Punch
Stampin' Up Victorian Lace Stamp
Blue Ink
Hero Arts Stamp
String Pearls
Silver Flecked Tulle
White Ribbon
Loose Iridescent Glitter

You Are the Best

Today's card is for a special lady who is an event planner at a local restaurant; she has made it so easy for us to get all our ducks in a row for a wonderful upcoming celebration. Crafty Ribbons has a great challenge this week, and I'll be entering there, as well as a few other great challenges.

These were used to make the card:

  • Heartfelt Creations:  Delicate Asters Die - This die is a favorite because when all the layers are fluffed up, it creates a beautiful dimensional flower that is a real eye-catcher; foliage is also included in the die.
  • Cuttlebug:  Baby's Breath EF
  • Just Rite:  Grand Sentiments
  • Loose Iridescent Glitter
  • Pearl Accent
  • Black Ink
  • Yellow Ink
  • Yellow and White Gingham Ribbon

Birthday Wishes

Today's card was made using some paper from a discontinued wallpaper book, which was used for the background. The background paper has some blue in it, but in the picture those blue areas showed up as grey. I promise there's blue there!  :o)

I decided to use some tools that had been neglected for awhile, so here is a list of those items used:

Martha Stewart:  Fans and Flourishes Punch
Stampin' Up:  Pansy Punch; Flower Shop Stamp; Elegant Butterfly Punch
EK Success:  Frame Punch

Just a Note: Kraft Paper and Ivory Burlap

I don't usually do brown cards unless it is for a man, but kind of went out of my comfort zone on this one. I ran a piece of kraft paper through an EF, inked it with white ink to accent the embossing and used it as the card base. A sheet of white burlap purchased at Michael's had been sitting in my craft room for years, because it was so special. Why do I do this???  I figured that it is time to use those things, and if they get all used up, the store is not far away! How silly I have been to hoard some of these things. Anyway, the piece of ivory burlap was edged with ivory lace; ivory flowers and leaves and a bow were added along with a sentiment.

These were used:

Spellbinders:  Ribbon Banners; Enchanted EF
Cottage Cutz:  Layered Flourish Flower
Hero Arts:  Sentiment that I've had at least 3 years!
Lace
Ivory Burlap
Loose Glitter
White Ink
Brown Ink
White Pearl

A Gold and Silver Christmas

Gold and silver are so representative of the Christmas season; they represent Christ's deity and the redemption He brought to us. Today's card has both gold and silver, plus a sparkly white corrugated background.

I took some gold vellum and heat embossed a silver dove from Stampin' Up's Calm Christmas collection of stamps. I used a special vellum glue runner on the back of the vellum, but because the background paper was so glittery, the vellum glue would not stick to it; it was also very thin and flimsy, so I backed it with regular paper to make it more stable and used a regular glue runner on the back of it. It adhered well to the background. Other items used were self adhesive faux gem strips which were found at Joann's, and a silver double-looped bow.

Here is the card:

The sentiment on the inside of the card was created by Diane Noble, and she graciously gave me permission to use it on my Christmas cards:

On that Holy night our Savior was born and

God ushered into the world light,

joy and His Truth in the flesh.

And now at Christmas we anticipate

His coming again to bring final

Peace and justice to the nations
.
May your holiday season be wrapped in His light,

sparkled with His joy, and filled with His peace.

Merry Christmas

Psalm 27:1

Today I went through some drawers in my scrap room and found years-old items that had been neglected to the point of being totally forgotten. Absolutely EVERYTHING on this card, except for the three pearls embellishing the butterfly, are as old as the hills.

The butterfly was a long-forgotten sticker that had actually lost most of its tackiness. I glittered the backside of the wings so that whatever stickiness was left would not adhere to the background. An old doily sprayed gold was used, string pearls, a border strip, gold glitter, a butterfly sticker, flat-backed gold pearls and wire-rimmed gold ribbon. The scalloped background was also old, old, old. Even the sentiment was a sticker from a purchased package from long ago.

An attempt to show the glitter:

Christmas Joy!

I'm slowly getting into making Christmas cards for the upcoming season this year; already have around 20 made, but still need to do more, as many of you can relate.

I used some recycled Christmas wrapping paper as a background for this card, along with a Sue Wilson "JOY" die as the focal point. A Martha Stewart Pine Leaf Punch was used for the greenery; the green cardstock was not quite dark enough, so it was inked with a dark green ink for more color and depth. A gold edged red ribbon was run vertically along the side along with a triple-looped bow at the bottom. The original use of the greenery was to cover an imperfection in the background paper, so I don't think anyone will notice that it's not as it should be.  (smile)  The bow and greenery were enhanced with a bit of dried gold foliage, which is hard to see in the first picture. The entire card is dusted lightly with gold glitter; wish my iPhone camera picked up the sparkle better, but when held in different positions, the sparkle really shines.

Here it is:

Dried foliage on bow:

Attempt to show sparkle. Lots shinier than the photo depicts:

Inside sentiment:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
