"And She Laid Him in a Manger"

I used another Cricut cartridge in making this card: December 25th. I love the pretty design this cartridge made on the lower part of the manger. The cutout was made from red vinyl, and later sprayed with red glitter mist (Krylon) for some extra embellishment. This is really a CAS card, and was so easy to make. The background is a piece of white cardstock run through a Darice (Snowflakes) EF. The raised flakes were glued, then sprinkled with iridescent glitter. The finishing touch is a red and white polka dot bow at the bottom.

Here is the card:

Joy

I made a card using my Cricut machine yesterday, and wanted to get it posted.

Starting out with white cardstock, a layer of aluminum foil was added; a layer of blue paper was run through a Darice EF (Snowflakes). I put VersaMark ink on each of the raised flakes and sprinkled them with white embossing powder, then used the heat tool on it to make them turn white and adhere to the paper.

I used the December 25th Cricut cartridge to cut out the manger scene and the word "JOY," then sprayed them with silver glitter mist (Krylon) to make them sparkle against the night sky.

Michael's had this pretty blue and silver ribbon last time I was there, so, knowing it would be used, into the shopping cart it went.  Using that ribbon across the bottom, I also added a bow over on the right under the sentiment.

Here is the card:

For unto Us a Child Is Born

I made another Christmas card; at this rate, they will all be done soon.

Starting with white cardstock, a red piece is laid on top of it. The next layer is white paper; you can't actually tell, but it was run through a Cuttlebug EF (Swiss Dots). On top of that is a layer of silver tulle. The focal point of this one is the sentiment: "For unto us a child is born." It is mounted on a red piece of cardstock and put in the upper left hand corner of the card with dimensional stickies. A white glittery double-looped bow is added on the right, then the whole card was sprayed with Krylon Diamond Dust spray. Finally, three red rhinestones were added at the bottom of the framed sentiment. Note: It is really important that if you are going to spray your entire card with any embellishing spray, do it before you add rhinestones. Otherwise, their sparkle will be dulled.

Here is the card:

Gloria

I made a CAS (sort of) Christmas card this morning. I had an element that was already made beforehand; I guess I made it and decided not to use it, so it went into a little box for that sort of thing. It is a dark blue die cut from Spellbinders Majestic Elements on which I had heat embossed in gold the word "Gloria." The stamp is from a CTMH set in my stamp drawer. There are two gold pearls added, one to the top of the piece and one to the bottom.

I ran a white piece of cardstock through a Paper Studio A2 Curl Ribbon EF and spray painted it gold; then sprayed over it with some Krylon Diamond Dust spray. The diamond dust spray is so subtle that you almost cannot tell it is there, but maybe it adds just a small element of extra bling. The sentiment is put on with pop dots; a sparkly, blingy gold bow is placed at the bottom of the card.

Here it is:

Peace on Earth (2)

Like the card in the previous post, I used three dies from Poppy Stamps:  Grand Gothic Window, Grand Gothic Stained Glass and Pine sprigs. This card, however, carries with it a much more formal look than the first "Peace on Earth" card. On this one I also used the Spellbinders Bark and Brick EF, using the "Brick" side of the folder. I ran some light grey paper through the brick EF and then used a brayer loaded with gold paint and ran that over the bricks. The focal poiht of the card is the glittery hot pink/red/purple blingy paper behind the "leaded" layer. The facets in it really catch the light in a very interesting way. So glad I got this paper from the craft store.

The frame of the window is spray painted gold. "Peace on Earth" is mounted with pop dots at the top in white, gold and green. Pine sprigs are glued at the bottom of the window and a gold bow finishes the card. Here it is:

Peace on Earth (1)

I have made two Christmas cards today using the same dies, but with a bit of a different twist for each one. The dies used are all from PoppyStamps:  Grand Gothic Window, Grand Gothic Stained Glass Window and Pine Sprigs. I also used Spellbinders Brick and Bark EF.

The first card (the one in this post) is the more rustic of the two. (You can see the second card here.) I have this beautiful scarf that was hand painted by a Messianic Jewish friend who lives in Israel; it has all the colors of the rainbow and is just stunning. I get complements on it each time I wear it. I took a picture of it and printed it out on my computer. I took a section of it and used Glossy Accents liquid on it to make it look like real glass.

Here is a picture of a piece of the picture with the glossy finish:

I used the "Bark" side of the EF on this card and rolled over it with a brayer loaded with gold  ink, then white ink. To me it looks a lot like the exterior of a sweet little country church. I went to one of these churches as a child. The "stained glass" paper is overlaid with the black "leading" of the die. The window frame was die cut out and spray painted gold. "Peace on Earth" is mounted on gold and green papers and placed on the card with pop dots. At the bottom of the window are die cut pine sprigs, and a blingy, glittery golden bow is attached,

Here is a picture of the card:

A closeup of the "stained glass." It reminds me of the glass on a Tiffany lamp:

And, "Peace on Earth."

A Black and White Christmas Card

I am back at Joan's Gardens making another card for her challenge this week, making a Christmas card using black and white only, and a frame. Sometimes with these challenges I follow the guidelines and come up with something so ugly that I would never give it to anyone. Such was my card this time. (Does this ever happen to anyone else???)

So that idea got scrapped and I just left it alone for awhile and got back to it later with a different perspective.

Starting with white cardstock, I put a piece of black paper over the front to cover up the ugly card I had started. (Ha! No one will ever know except you, and you won't tell, will you?) I had purchased some really pretty black and white wrapping paper from Hobby Lobby a few months ago; the black swirls have black glitter on them for some extra bling.  It seemed a perfect paper for this challenge, since it is mostly white.

I ran a white glittery ribbon across the bottom of the paper and placed a poinsettia (Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia) on it with pop dots. The center is embellished with a single pearl made from liquid pearls. That was not the original plan; it started out to be 3-5 individual pearls, but they sort of started to run together, so the executive decision was made to combine them to make one larger pearl.  :o)  Tucked underneath the flower are two Die-Namics Fancy Flourish pieces cut from black paper.

The sentiment is layered with black and white papers and is die cut with the Spellbinders Lacy Ovals frame. The white frame has been sprayed with Krylon Diamond Dust Glitter Spray. It's not very noticeable unless you can view it at a close distance, but I have posted a closeup of it below. On http://heartfulstamper.blogspot.com I found a wonderful free digital Christmas sentiment, and I put it on the inside of the card.

This was another time when I took advantage of using MS Publisher for the inside and back of the card, which are posted below.

Here is a picture of the card:

Isaiah 9:2

This week at Joan's Gardens we are challenged to make a Christmas card that is only black and white, and it must have a frame. I had to think long and hard about a black and white Christmas card. I think of this season as a time of hope. Black seems the opposite of that, but this card is my attempt to show that black is not always sad.

Starting out with white cardstock, I cut a black frame from Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight. I sprayed it with E6000 spray glue and sprinkled on white glitter to resemble all the lesser stars in the night sky. (E6000 spray glue is great when you want some good overall coverage on a piece, and it seemed to work well with the white glitter here.) The star is cut out, and several stars of graduated sizes are glued on top of each other to create a strong dimensional element. The stars have white glitter glued onto them (Stampin' Up white glitter.)

The sentiment is printed from my computer and framed with the Spellbinders die, Labels Eighteen.

I used MS Publisher again on this card because it is so easy to do the inside and back of the card using it. On http://heartfulstamper.blogspot.com I found a wonderful free digital Christmas sentiment, and I put it on the inside of the card. The back of the card has John 3:16-17 on it and "Handmade especially for you by Ginny." To see the back of the card you can go to a previous post to see that. On this card, since it was black and white only, I changed the font color on the back of the card from red to black.

Here is the card:

Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming (2)

Once again, a Christmas card is in order for this post. I am using the same beautiful text as my previous card, but with a different layout on the front from the last card. You may recognize the same description from the last post, but some may not have read it, so I am putting it in again:

Christmas music brings with it such hope and an overall admiration for our Savior. In thinking about the next card I wanted to make, I wanted to incorporate a rose; the wonderful 15th Century, "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" came to mind. The title of the text is taken from the eleventh chapter of the book of Isaiah:

Isaiah 11:1-2
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:  And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

The lyrics of the carol, so beautifully crafted, express the theme of the Christmas story in its grand story of God's Love come down to earth to save us.  Maybe you have heard the song at one time or another. You can check my previous post for the beautiful words to this ancient carol.

Now, on to the card.

Starting with white cardstock, I ran another piece through a Spellbinders Enchanted EF and attached a ribbon vertically to it. I got some pretty Christmas ribbons today at Joann's for 50% off; it was hard to pick, but I came away with two that I liked a lot. A Spellbinders Medallion One was die cut and spray painted gold. Laid on top of that is a rose (Spellbinders Spiral Blossom One) cut with three layers of red tissue paper, then rolled to form the flower. Gold rose leaves (Spellbinders Foliage) were tucked beneath the rose. Liquid pearls are dotted around the medallion. I had never used liquid pearls before because I thought they might be difficult to use; however, I ventured out and bought some yesterday and to my surprise, they are remarkably easy to use and look like real pearls. I love learning new things!

Finally, the sentiment is cut from an EK Success Real Estate Sign Punch and inked with red around the edges to make it stand out more against the white background. It is attached with dimensional stickies.

Here is the card:

 The medallion with liquid pearls:

 The sentiment:

Like a few of my other Christmas cards, I used MS Publisher to create the inside and back of the card. The inside left has the entire lyrics for the carol and on the other side on the right is another sentiment: "May God's highest and best blessings be yours as you celebrate the birth of His holy Son, Jesus Christ." You can check "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" post to see pictures of the inside and back of the card. I really like using MS Publisher for a lot of my cards; it is quite helpful in cutting down on some of the routine steps, like making sure the card back says the card is handmade especially for you by me.  :o)  There have been times when I have forgotten this step! If you use 8.5" by 11" cardstock, you can print off two A2 cards on one piece of paper. Works for me.

Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming

This week at Joan's Gardens we are challenged to use red, white and a hint of green (great for Christmas, right?), snowflakes and a negative die cut.

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:  And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

The lyrics of the carol, so beautifully crafted, express the theme of the Christmas story in its grand story of God's Love come down to earth to save us.  Maybe you have heard the song at one time or another. Here are the words:

Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung.
It came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.

Isaiah ’twas foretold it, the Rose I have in mind;
With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind.
To show God’s love aright, she bore to men a Savior,
When half spent was the night.

The shepherds heard the story proclaimed by angels bright,
How Christ, the Lord of glory was born on earth this night.
To Bethlehem they sped and in the manger found Him,
As angel heralds said.

This Flower, whose fragrance tender with sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor the darkness everywhere;
True Man, yet very God, from sin and death He saves us,
And lightens every load.

O Savior, Child of Mary, who felt our human woe,
O Savior, King of glory, who dost our weakness know;
Bring us at length we pray, to the bright courts of Heaven,
And to the endless day!

Awesome words!

In making the card, I started out with white cardstock; to use kind of a twist, the negative of a die cut (Spellbinders Lacy Ovals) was used, and a red oval was positioned underneath it with dimensional stickies. Under that layer is the sentiment, which is the first lines of the Christmas carol. The top layer was run through a Paper Studio A2 Floral EF after the cut out was made.

Starting out with three layers of red tissue paper, a rose was cut (Spellbinders Spiral Blossom One) and rolled. Under the rose is a green leafy vine (Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish), and a few golden baby's breath sprigs are tucked in under the rose. Cheery Lynn Art Deco Corners A are positioned in the upper left and right corners; three tiny snowflakes (Recollections Petite Snowflake Punch) smatthered with glitter glue are placed on the red frame, and an iridescent bow finishes the card.

Looking at the layout of the project, something still needed to happen. It needed sparkle or bling. I covered the sentiment up and took the card outside and sprayed it with some Krylon diamond glitter mist. The pictures below show how this added feature brought out more personality in the card and brought it up a notch in interest and sparkle.

And here is a picture of the front:

 Here is a closeup of the glittery rose, ribbon and leaves:

And here is a closeup of the glittery embossed background:

This is a closeup of one of the glittery snowflakes:

Like a few of my other Christmas cards, I used MS Publisher to create the inside and back of the card. The inside left has the entire lyrics for the carol and on the other side on the right is another sentiment: "May God's highest and best blessings be yours as you celebrate the birth of His holy Son, Jesus Christ."
