More Playing with New Dies (and Stamps!)

I almost never do this, but this month I have been on a craft spending binge; there are so many new toys to play with that there will be a lot of posts in the future.  :o)

Today's card was made with a Stampin' Up bundle:  Frozen Treats Framelits Dies and Cool Treats Stamps. The sentiment was die cut with Spellbinders Labels Eighteen. Also, to go along with this set I purchased the coordinating paper pack.

This is the cutest set--so glad I got it.

Playing with a New Die!

I got some new dies in the mail yesterday from Terri Urban At Joan's Gardens. She always gives great prices, and always charges only what it costs her to mail the products.

One of the die sets I got was the Sue Wilson Mini Striplet Butterflies in Flight. As you can see, the butterflies on the right match perfectly with the filigree outline on the left. I cut out two of the filigree parts and stacked them for some extra dimension. The sentiment is from an old Hampton Arts stamp that I've had for three years, and is punched out with a one inch scalloped punch and mounted on a similar 1 1/4 inch scalloped circle punched backing.

As you can see, each of the die cut outs matches perfectly with the filigree piece.

Black and White Spring Butterflies and Flowers

I love black and white cards; they seem so crisp and fresh, with a lot of contrast. However, I have to be careful to not make a high percentage of the card black, because that would make it too morbid, because black is a very dark color (no pun intended!). This is a card with the hope of Spring with butterflies and flowers.

The Kensington Border (Memory Box) is so intricate that it will not show up unless the background piece is a strong contrast, so that's why black and white were chosen for the layout. I tried using the die with a patterned paper that was pink and white, but the design did not show up on a pink background or a white background; actually, any strong contrasting solid colors would look nice with this die, like red and white or a strong blue or purple, pink, etc., with a white background or contrasting color.

It was lightened up somewhat by a whimsical white ribbon and bow with black polka dots. The white background piece was embossed with a Darice Flower Frenzy EF. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up Bitty Banners. My husband thought it looked a little dark, so I sprayed it with Diamond Dust Glitter Mist and added some pearls on the top and in the center of the flowers. This is for our daughter, who lives very far away; we don't get to see her very often, but talk to her several times a week.

A Flowery Hello

I made today's card with two new EFs (Paper Studio Ogee and Spellbinders Butterfly Kisses) and a new Sizzix Stampin' Up Flower Frenzy Big Z L Die; the sentiment is a die from Little Yellow Bicycle. A peachy double-looped bow and pearl finishes it.  The paper is double sided from Stampin' Up, so when I ran the paper though the die, which has both the flower and the foliage, the peachy heart paper for the flower was cut, and the reverse side of the paper was green, so I didn't have to do a separate foliage cut. That was nice.  :o)

Here is the card:

Sending You Hugs and Kisses

I had so much fun making the two cards on today's post; they are for two of my granddaughters, ages 5 and 3.

The die and stamp set were on the current issue of Tattered Lace magazine; you probably know that each issue comes with a free die, but this issue had this adorable bear, PLUS stamps that go along with it. I got it At Joan's Gardens from Terri Urban, the owner. She usually charges less for dies and stamps and all sorts of crafting products, plus she only charges her cost of shipping, so I'm a very satisfied customer.

Here are the cards:

Bright and Cheerful

Today's card was made for a sick child in a hospital. I have a friend who makes cards for several charities, and children's hospitals is one of them. Would you believe that she makes 300 cards every month????? I can't match that, but love making cards to add to those she sends off to her charities. Plus, she is so much fun! It's a day of joy and laughter when we craft together.

:o)

I got another one of these folding card dies at Michael's because they had another 60% off coupon; it was normally $29.95, but I got it for $12.99, just like the other one. These cards are so much fun to make; they look a bit daunting, but in reality, they are super easy. This die is similar to the square one, but more curvy...

Here's the card:

The white circle on the inside of the card is where the sender would write a very short note:
