Rejoice! The Savior Has Come

Today's Christmas card is very CAS, but I wanted to give it some extra zing with some glittery gold paper. I ran the gold paper through my Cricut machine using the "A Quilted Christmas" cartridge. This design was one of the card features on the cartridge, but the cartridge cuts the paper in a shape that wastes a lot of paper, and I only want to use the part of the paper that has the actual design on it. So I manipulated the paper so that there would be less waste. The design is of a couple singing Christmas carols. I used a Sweet 'n' Sassy stamp from the Jesus Is Born set and heat embossed it with gold ink, then die cut it out with the smallest die from the Spellbinders Lacy Ovals collection.

Here is the card:

The inside is stamped with a sentiment from the same Sweet 'n' Sassy collection:

Joy to the World!

This year I wanted to start early making Christmas cards, and, in fact, I now have forty cards made so far. This puts me in the zone of not having to rush at the last minute to make sure there will be enough when the first of December rolls around. That is usually when I try to get them mailed.

Today's card has lots of glitter and glam going into the making of this project. Starting out with white cardstock, a colorful metallic finish in bold coppers, golds, oranges and turquoise was laid down with Shimmer Gilding Flakes. Next, an elaborate black die cut layer was added (my first time to use this die!), topped by a framed sentiment. Ribbon and embellishments from the floral department of the craft store were added to make this a very over-the-top glitzy card. I know just the bling-loving friend who will receive this one.  :o)

Here is what was used in the making of it:

  • Ranger Perfect Pearls iridescent coloring for the sentiment
  • Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes - Calypso
  • Memory Box Elliana Background Die
  • Spellbinders Labels Eighteen
  • Sweet 'n' Sassy Jesus Is Born Stamp
  • Copper Spray Paint
  • Gold Ribbon
  • Gold Foliage and Berries

Here is the card:

Psalm 84:11 in Blue and Yellow

Today I made a card using Diane Noble's Daydream Designs papers and sentiment. I especially liked using her blue and white striped paper for the die cut butterfly, and the font she used for the sentiment is lovely, don't you think?. The design is very straightforward, and you can easily see how it was made. Throughout the whole design you can see the repeated pattern of dots, dots, dots in the background paper, the bow, the liquid pearls on the butterfly and the stringed pearl beaded embellishment. Lots of dots going on here!

These are what were used:

Daydream Designs Nest to Sky Papers - Blue Polka Dots, Blue and Yellow Stripes
Spellbinders - Les Papillons, Labels Eighteen
Stringed Iridescent Pearl Beads
Yellow Tulle
White Vellum
Blue Liquid Pearls
Blue and White Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon
Bow Easy

And here is the card:

Quote from St. Patrick and a Bow Tutorial Video

Today's card has a sentiment taken from a writing by St. Patrick. Also included is a video I found on YouTube that explains very simply how to make a beautiful two-looped bow using only your fingers!

The verse, from an ancient peom by St. Patrick, was set to music and a friend of mine played it for a group of us. We thought it was so beautiful--the melody is very lovely in a way that so many Irish melodies are, with clear, pure tones. It is called Deer's Cry, and you may listen to it in the video posted at the bottom of this post. I don't think I have ever posted two embedded videos in the same blogpost before, but wanted to make it easy for you to listen to this amazing song. It has stunning graphics and all the words to the song are displayed on the screen. I think you will be blessed to click on it and listen to it. :o)

The background paper is actually shelf liner that I found at the Dollar Store. (TEE-HEE!!!) The portion of the song on the card was printed from my computer using a nice Old English font, then die cut with a Spellbinders Our Daily Bread Designs CSBD56 frame. Also used are Stampin' Up Papillon Potpourri Stamp; Elegant Butterfly Punch; Flower Shop Stamp; Pansy Punch. Memory Box Lorelai Leaf Die; Lorelai Leaf Outline Die. Die Namics Prima Donna Petals Die (first time I have used this die!). Viva Liquid Pearls, Ribbon, Glue, Glitter, Pop Dots and Vellum.

Here is a great video showing how to make a very nice double-looped bow using only your fingers:

A Row of Christmas Candles

Today's card was made using the "A Quilted Christmas" Cricut cartridge. Some of these cartridges have a "card" button that gives such a wide array of lovely card features. This pattern has a row of lit candles running along the bottom of the card. I used only the half of the cut card that had the actual cut pattern on it. It is backed with a piece of paper spray painted gold and dusted with gold glitter mist. The Sweet 'n' Sassy "Christmas Light" stamp was used with VersaMark ink and gold embossing powder. It is all mounted on a piece of green cardstock for some contrasting color and Christmas interest.

Here is the card:

Cup of Tulips

Today I made another card using Diane's Daydream Designs images and papers from the Cup of Tulips Collection and the Nest to Sky Papers Collection. I like to mix and match her designs, as they seem to go very well with each other and I can get just the exact feeling I want for the card by blending her creations.

This is what was used to make the card:

Cup of Tulips Image and Sentiment
Cup of Tulips - Garden Breeze Paper and Pink Grid Paper
Nest to Sky Papers - Stripes-Blue-Yellow
Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Ovals
Sizzix Bitty Banners Framelits
Fiskars Tiny Butterfly Punch
Pink and White Gingham Ribbon
Pop Dots
Liquid Pearls

Three Wise Men...

Today's card uses the Creative Expressions "Calypso" Gilding Flakes again, which I got from Terri at Joan's Gardens. For a demo of how to use this product, please go to yesterday's post at http://homespuncards.blogspot.com/2014/08/christmas-candle.html. This video taught me how to use the flakes, and it was so much fun to work with them. I made a background paper using them and topped it off with Three Kings from the Cricut "A Quilted Christmas" cartridge in a dark teal color to pick up the teal/turquoise in the gilding flakes. The colors are nontraditional for Christmas, but sometimes that adds to the uniqueness of it. To add some additional sparkle, the front of the card was lightly misted with gold glitter mist.

Here is the card:

The inside of the card has the sentiment from the Sweet 'n' Sassy "Jesus Is Born" stamp set; I could not figure a good place to put it on the front of the card, so inside was the best place for it:

Christmas Candle

I got something really neat in the mail today from Terri at Joan's Gardens. It is Creative Expressions Gilding Flakes, and it was so much fun to work with it. I used the "Calypso" flakes, which has tones of gold, copper, turquoise and orange. You can go to the video below to see how Sue Wilson teaches how to use this fun medium. Enlarge it to full screen for an even better look.

I did not use a stamp like she used, but rather just made a whole background piece covered with the gilding flakes. The sentiment stamp is from Sweet 'n' Sassy and is heat embossed with copper colored embossing powder. The candle die is Tall Taper Candle from Memory Box. The card actually looks very CAS, but there was quite a technique involved in making it. Here it is:

The luscious colors of the gilding flakes:

Bicycle and Balloons

Today's card showcases several of Diane Noble's fantastically creative artwork, which you can find at her Daydream Designs store.

These are the images and sentiments I got from her store:

Nest to Sky Papers for the clouds
Time to Party Color Image Set for the balloons
Doodle Garden Color Image Set for the grassy pieces
On the Move Color Image Set for the cute little yellow bicycle with flower basket
Cup of Tulips for the sentiments

I also used a Stampin' Up frame punch to cut out the two sentiments, which I combined into one piece.

I love using Diane's pre-colored images because I just don't have the patience to color them as beautifully as she does. She also has uncolored images that may be colored just how you want them to look.

Here is the card:
