I have really enjoyed making Christmas cards this fall; starting early is the key to having all our ducks in a row so that we do not get overwhelmed when the holidays get here.

Today's card is a remake of another card I made awhile back. Do you ever make a card and look at it and say to yourself, "would I really send this to someone?" Maybe it just isn't your best work, or your followed guidelines for a challenge, but ended up with a less than spectacular card.

I am not saying that today's card is spectacular, but it is an improvement over what it was. It was originally a CAS (clean and simple) card, however, it looked to be too clean and too simple; it was boring, lacked color and sparkle, and seemed rather blah...

So I spray painted it with silver glitter mist; (I am a bling junkie!). I added some corner die cuts (Cheery Lynn 162B Corner Art Deco) which are also "silverized." Using a Close to My Heart stamp, I framed a sentiment with Spellbinders S4-310 Labels 18 and traced the die on to red paper and cut out a backing for the sentiment in red. To use the next larger die would have proved too large and would have taken up too much real estate on the A2 card.  Red rhinestones and a red double looped bow were added to finish the card. And here it is:

I am continuing with the wonderful stamp from Close to My Heart, which is Isaiah 9:6, for another Christmas card. This time I used tulle that is flecked with gold and lined a piece of white cardstock. On top of that is the sentiment which is die cut from Spellbinders Labels 18; iridescent glitter was glued around the edges. Black Cheery Lynn B162 Lace Corner Deco B die cuts were placed on each corner. To finish the card, a gold edged mesh double looped bow is added on the right.

I have been waiting to use a wonderful Close to My Heart stamp that I got some time ago, and Christmas is the time to use it. I will be making several cards using this stamp, each with a somewhat different design.

I got some silver mesh ribbon from Hobby Lobby yesterday and glued about four layers of it onto a piece of white cardstock. Onto that I put four corner embellishments (Cheery Lynn B162 Lace Corner Deco B). After stamping the sentiment, I cut around it with those kind of scissors that make a pretty patterned cut, then inked around the edges with silver ink, then black ink around the outermost edges. This is put onto the card with dimensional stickies. A white sparkly bow is added for a finishing touch. Here is the card:

Glory to God in the Highest

I am trying to get a head start on Christmas cards. You know how quickly the holidays can sneak up on us, and so Christmas card making is a weekly event right now.

I have this wonderful stamp in my drawer that was perfect for the occasion. It has different names of Jesus:  Messiah, Emmanuel, Truth, Deliverer, etc., and I thought it would make a great background for a Christmas card. I stamped embossing ink onto white cardstock, then put green embossing powder on it and used my heat tool on it. The little shepherd boy is a cut out; he is put on with dimensional stickies, as is the sentiment. Both stamps were purchased at either Joann's or Hobby Lobby.

The card is finished with a red polka dot bow and two little rhinestones in the upper right hand corner.  Here is the card:

A Note of Thanks

I had an embossing folder that had never been used; I bought it because music is a very important part of my life, as I am sure is true for many of you.

I chose the black and white theme because of the nature of sheet music, which is almost always printed in black and white. But the temptation to put in a splash of red color was too great, so it has some bright red in it, along with some sparkly glitter mist spray paint.

I embossed a piece of white cardstock with my music notes EF (Paper Studio A2 Music Notes) and ran a brayer loaded with black ink over it. This was glued to black cardstock to make it stand out from the white cardstock base of the card. Two different EFs were used (Paper Studio A2 Curl Ribbon and Darice Checkered) for the two white perpendicular pieces, and they, too, are backed with black cardstock, then glued onto the card. The flower (Memory Box Fabulous Phlox and Cottage Cutz Flourish Layered Flower) was assembled next and a red rhinestone was added in the middle of it; little black leaves were arranged under it. The sentiment (Stampin Up Thank You Kindly) was bordered with black, as well, and both the white and black pieces were cut with a square punch (EK Success 1" square). Then a red bow was added. This was all sprayed with diamond glitter dust.

Originally it had a black butterfly (Memory Box Pippi Butterfly) that was sprayed with glitter dust, but the card seemed to lack a much needed additional pop of color, so I spray painted it red. However, because the butterfly was black, the red came out not as bright as I had hoped, so I cut another one out of bright red paper and glued it on top of the first one to make a double-winged butterfly.

And the Winner of the Hat Contest Is...

This week I am entering a card at Joan's Gardens, where we are challenged to make a card with the following guidelines:

• Use a picture
• Use neutral colors
• Add a flourish
• Use a product sold at Joan's Gardens
• Mention that you are entering your card at her challenge

I found an old photo of my grandmother (she is the lady in the middle), her sister and another friend; they were wearing HUGE, very elaborate, highly embellished hats. It must have been the style back then. The coloring on the card is sepia, brown and ivory. (Please excuse the differences in color in the different pictures; I think it had something to do with the lighting.) They look so pleased and happy to be showing off their beautiful hats.  :)

I used ivory cardstock and pasted a neutral colored paper on top of it, then attached the picture that was die cut out and framed in a darker brown with the same package of die cuts, but one size larger.  The sentiment is printed from my computer because no stamp I had was right for the card. The sentiment is die cut also with the same oval scallop. I cut the backing also from the same die set, but it made the card too crowded, so I cut it down so that there is just a hint of a darker background for the sentiment. Next, I put ivory colored lace across the bottom border of the card and added leaf flourishes, roses and an ivory colored bow.

They all three are holding American flags, but only the one being held by the lady on the right is clearly visible. Looks different from our flag today, for sure!

Isaiah 30:15

This week at Joan's Gardens we are challenged to make a card with fall colors, leaves, and a bird and/or a tree.

I was at Hobby Lobby yesterday and they were having a sale on Fall goodies, so I saw these beautiful leaves and this great burlap that was on a 6" ribbon roll. You know how a cardmaker's mind starts to work when these things come into view!

Starting out with ivory cardstock, I cut the burlap to fit the card and glued it down; then the leaves were added with a three-looped raffia ribbon. The sentiment is printed out from my computer and is framed with a Spellbinder's die cut; I inked the edges with some orange ink to add some more brightness to the card. The bird is also from Spellbinders. The tiny butterflies are from a Fiskars punch and the larger brown butterfly is from Martha Stewart. All butterflies are coated with yellow gold glitter glue.

Yellow Birthday Blessings GBCB-021

Good evening, lovely crafters. I worked on a card today, reworking one that I did not like so much, and making a totally different look for it, which I like a lot better than what it was before the re-work.

Starting out with white cardstock, another piece was laid over it that had been run through an embossing folder, then sprayed with glitter dust. Next, a die cut frame was covered with opal glitter glue--I really lavished it on. In fact it was so wet with glitter glue that after it dried I had to iron it because it was all wonky! Next, I die cut a ribbon label with a sentiment I printed from my computer. It is sprayed with diamond glitter dust. A yellow Marianne die came next, then green leaf flourishes. A rolled yellow rose is the focal point with a quadruple looped yellow and glittery white ribbon bow. A butterfly glistened with iridescent glitter glue was placed on the left and yellow rhinestones were placed on the butterfly and in the lower left hand corner.

Rustic Elegance with Gold - GBCB-001

This week at Joan's Gardens we are challenged to use leaves, fall colors and a tree and/or a bird. Lots of fall colors are inspiring me, and although it is not cooler weather where I live, the hope for that is always in the air.

I used a wonderful Scripture Art piece from Word Art Wednesday that they featured some time back. It is always an encouragement to be reminded what God has in store for us,and how much He loves us.

I used ivory cardstock and put a dark burgundy brown paper on top of that. the next layer is embossed and spray painted with gold paint. Then it is dabbed very subtly with green, brown, red and orange inks. The sentiment is printed with brown ink onto ivory cardstock, then backed with the same burgundy brown paper. Fall colored inks were dabbed on it to give some interest.  Two twigs from my back yard are accented with a twine bow, punched leaves and a little embossed orange bird. A butterfly finishes the card. The colors in the picture do not show the true golden-ness of the background.  Wish that had come through better.

Butterflies Are Free

I made a card this morning that is nearly all white, except for a colored stamping, which is the centerpiece of the card. This was in the guidelines of the current Crafty Ribbons Challenge.

Starting out with white cardstock, another piece was laid over it that had been run through an embossing folder, then sprayed with glitter dust. Next, a die cut frame was covered with opal glitter glue--I really lavished it on. In fact it was so wet with glitter glue that after it dried I had to iron it because it was all wonky! The butterflies were stamped onto watercolor paper, then die cut and colored with pens. Then that was also sprayed with diamond glitter dust.  It is finished off with a glittery triple-looped white bow.
