You Are Inscribed on the Palm of His Hand

I am entering another card for this week's challenge at Joan's Gardens, and also at Word Art Wednesday.

The guidelines for Joan's challenge this week are:

  •  Use a doily
  •  Have three dimensional flowers with greenery
  •  Use a Floral Design Paper

  • This time it is a birthday card for a precious friend who was on the worship team when I was WL at my former church.  She is amazing beyond words, and this card was made while I thought of all the reasons she is so special to me.

    Here is the card:

I started out with white cardstock, then added a blue and white floral background paper. The sentiment is from a stamp I got at Joann's, which is Isaiah 49:16, "You are inscribed on the palm of His hand..." Isn't it amazing to know that we are that special to God? I used silver heat embossed powder to make the writing pop. Blue ink is dabbed around the edge of the sentiment to make it stand out more, and an EK Success edge punch is used on one side of the sentiment to add interest.

Just like in the last card post, I did not have a doily die, so improvisation was in order. Taking a die from a Spellbinder's  die set, I cut out three of the same one that looked like this:

Then I stacked them and glued them together and sprayed them with silver glitter spray to look like this:

Then I used another Spellbinder's die to make the flower with three graduated sizes. The first die is cut from several layers of aluminum foil. The other two layers are cut from vellum and dabbed with blue ink to coordinate with the blue flowers on the floral background. Some greenery was added along with a super giant rhinestone in the middle of the flower. The parts were lifted and manipulated to give the flower more dimension. Last, I added a glittery white bow at the bottom right to complete the card.

I will need to mail this card to her with one of the special clear box envelopes I got from Joan. I practiced just to see if they work and sent myself a card from the post office to my home address, and they work great.  This is a great solution for mailing those cards that are ultra dimensional.

These are the tools used to make the card:

    Spellbinder's:  S5-128; S5-102 Aster Flower Topper
    Cheery Lynn:  Fanciful Flourish
    EK Success: Border Punch
    Sentiment Stamp
    Rhinestone
    Floral Paper
    White Glittery Bow

Items in blue may be purchased from Joan.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I always appreciate your visits. As always, God's highest and best to you today and every day.

    Many rich blessings,

    Ginny B.

    Lots of Dimension

I am back this week eager to make a nice card to enter into the challenge at Joan's Gardens.

Last week I did not enter because we made our way to Hawaii to see our new grandson. Our daughter and her husband live there, and we just had to go see the little fella.  What a sweet honey he is!  We are back now and I already miss him.  :o)

In addition to enjoying him, we also had some great Hawaiian food. Yum!  So, starting tomorrow, I will start back walking for 30 minutes in the morning and trying some self discipline (that's so hard!) in my diet.

    But I digress...

I want to work on this week's challenge from Joan.  Here are the guidelines:

  •  Use a doily
  •  Have three dimensional flowers with greenery
  •  Use a Floral Design Paper

  • I made this card for a friend who was having a birthday who is a member of the church where I used to be the worship leader. I started out with a packaged green cardstock--the kind that comes in a box with a lot of different colors or designs that you can get at the craft store.  I don't really have any dies that are in the shape of a doily, so I improvised and used some Spellbinders dies that were really meant to be used to stamp a sentiment on; I cut four of this die from pink paper that went well with the flowered background paper, and arranged them on top of each other to form a circle with a doily-like edge. Some pink and blue punched layered flowers were added, and a yellow center was glued into the middle of each one, then a colored rhinestone in the center of each flower. They were glued onto the "doily" and some greenery was added. I had a Pippi butterfly glued on, but it was so delicate that it seemed to get lost in the layout, so I added a blue punched smaller butterfly on top of it. It still looked a little plain, so I punched another one out and put some glitter glue on it and pasted it on top of the second one, making a three-layered butterfly.  Another tiny yellow/gold glitter butterfly is glued to the right top of the card. The sentiment is stamped and die cut in a ribbon banner shape and put into the middle of the layout with dimensional stickies.

    Here is the card:

The picture below shows the three-layered  butterfly in detail:

And this is another view showing the dimensionality of the elements:

And here are the tools used to make the card:

    • Spellbinders:  S5-031 used to make the "doily;" S4-324 Ribbon Banner
    • Our Daily Bread:  Stamp FC510 Hyacinth
    • Martha Stewart:  Leaf Branch Punch; Butterfly Punch
    • Poppy Stamp:  Lorelai Outline Leaf
    • Memory Box:  Pippi Butterfly
    • EK Success:  Blossom Punch
    • Paper Studio:  Daisy Lever Punch
    • Rhinestones
Items in blue may be purchased at Joan's Gardens.

I am also entering this card at Word Art Wednesday.

    A Peachy Thank You

This week at Joan's Gardens we are all in peach and green and white. I entered one card already and needed to make a thank you card for my daughter who got me a some crafting supplies and a very nice Spellbinder die set for my birthday. So, what better way to thank her than to make her a sweet card using what she gave me?

I am entering a card with these guidelines from Joan's challenge this week:

  • Pastel peach, green and white
  • Some type of layered flower
  • Fancy corner and a heart
  • You must use a product sold at Joan's Gardens
  • Mention that you are doing the card/project for Joan's Gardens Challenge

  •  I started out with white cardstock and found a peach and white plaid paper with sparkles on it. (Love sparkles and bling!) On top of the plaid paper is a corner die cut from white paper (my daughter's gift), and on top of that is greenery cut from sparkly green paper. This die is also from the same Spellbinder's set. The flower is cut partially from a die set and partially from cut outs, using white cardstock. I needed to make the flower a bit bigger than the dies were, so I just stuck some larger cut outs on the back of them. They are curled up with a tool and inked with peach (which I think just looks too orange) and pink. I think the pink ink tones down the orange ink and also makes for an interesting mottled effect. A green rhinestone is glued to the middle of the flower. On a white heart cut out is stamped "thanks so much" in green ink. It is attached with a dimensional stickie.

I am also entering this card at Word Art Wednesday.

    Here is the card:

These are the tools used in making the card:
    • Cuttlebug:  Asterisks 37-1202
    • Spellbinders:  Gold Elements One S5-183
    • Rhinestones

Items in green may be purchased from Joan.

    Soft Peach and Green

This week at Joan's Gardens we have another one of those challenges that got me out of my comfort zone. One of the guidelines is that we must use the color peach.  Since I don't work a lot with peach, it was harder to come up with something that fulfilled the criteria for the card and was still somewhat pleasing to the eye. I must admit that after getting started, it was fun to create all the elements and put them together.  These are Joan's guidelines:

  • Pastel peach, green and white
  • Some type of layered flower
  • Fancy corner and a heart
  • You must use a product sold at Joan's Gardens
  • Mention that you are doing the card/project for Joan's Gardens Challenge

  • Starting out with white cardstock, I put a layer of peach and white gingham paper which had been run through a favorite EF of mine. I used various colors of ink brayered on the raised pattern to make the embossing stand out more. The heart is a cut out also run through a Cuttlebug EF. Behind the heart is a patterned die cut that I recently got from Joan cut in a soft sparkly green color, as are the corner pieces and the leaf flourishes. The tiny flowers are punched out and layered, then accented with green rhinestones. The leaf flourishes are also embellished with rhinestones, and the corner pieces, as well.

    Here is the card:

It seemed that the white heart was a bit stark, so I put some peach colored ink on the raised dots and also put a bit on the white flowers so that they are peach and white. Here is a picture:

This picture is a close up of the layered flowers with the slight coloration on the edges of the petals:

These are the tools used in making the card:
    • Cuttlebug:  Swiss Dots Embossing Folder
    • Marianne Designs:  LR 0272
    • Spellbinders:  Moroccan Accents (Corner Pieces)
    • Nellie Snellen:  SD 002
    • Paper Studio:  Embossing Folder A2 #749739; Daisy Lever Punch
    • Rhinestones

Items in green may be purchased from Joan.

    Gentle Ovals

This week at Joan's Gardens we are challenged with the following guidelines:
    • Use a plain background
    • Use a double oval
    • Use a sentiment
    • Use any color combination, but have at least 2
    • You must use a product sold at Joan's Gardens
    • Mention that you are doing the card/project for Joan's Gardens Challenge

So I am entering the following card:

First off, on top of the basic white cardstock, I glued a bright yellow paper; then a smaller white paper was cut, punched on the corners with a corner punch. It is dabbed with a gentle light pink ink (hardly noticeable, but it takes the edge off the white color). Then a lighter polka dot yellow oval is glued on. A second oval frame holds the oval sentiment. (This is my rendition of the double oval.) The greenery was glued on next, using two different colors of green. I saw a neat idea somewhere on the internet that used a scallop punch and several layers of pink tissue paper; they are connected by pink brads and kind of scrunched up to look something like a many layered flower. The card is finished off with a pink double loop bow. I usually put a butterfly somewhere on my cards, especially if they have flowers, but it seemed that it would upset the balance, so I left it off this time.

And here are the tools used to make the card:

    • Spellbinders:  Floral Ovals; Fancy Framed Togs Two
    • Poppy Stamps:  Lorelai Leaf
    • EK 1 1/4 inch Punch
    • Paper Studio Corner Punch
    • Pink Ribbon, Brads; Pink Tissue Paper

Items in blue may be purchased from Joan.

    Oval Oval

This week I am submitting a card to Joan's Gardens which is another oval challenge; this one differs because we are to use double ovals.

    Here are Joan's guidelines:
    • Use a plain background
    • Use a double oval
    • Use a sentiment
    • Use any color combination, but have at least 2
    • You must use a product sold at Joan's Gardens
    • Mention that you are doing the card/project for Joan's Gardens Challenge

I am also entering this card at Word Art Wednesday. I thank them for the beautifully designed sentiment they gave us this week.

I really wanted to use some of the new things I got from Joan recently; I only have one oval die, and seems like it gets used every time we have an oval challenge. So to do things a bit differently this time, two ovals are cut out, one larger dark turquoise one, and a lighter turquoise one just a bit smaller. The die that has the sentiment is from Marianne Designs. These are glued onto a muted aqua background. Then, a leafy flourish is added with some blossoms, and a layered butterfly. Finally, I got to use my new Bow Easy which was purchased from Joan; the very small little double-looped bow at the bottom finishes off the design of the card.

    Here is the card:

And here are the tools used to make the card:

    • Marianne Designs:  LR0272
    • Cheery Lynn:  Mini Fanciful Flourish (Right) B291
    • Bow Easy
    • EK Success Tools: Layered Butterfly

Items in blue may be purchased from Joan.
