Oh Happy Day

I got a new Cricut cartridge the other day and wanted to experiment with it a bit. It is "Lacy Labels." There was one that seemed to meet the needs of the card in my head, so I cut it out along with pieces to back it up, and of course, the greenery part that swirls around the cut out shape. I put it together and also made little flowers with a Paper Studio Daisy Lever Punch; they each have a dot of gold glitter glue in the middle of the double layer flowers. A strip of blue patterned paper from my stash was run across the bottom of the card and some turquoise/aqua rick rack was added on top of the blue paper. The background paper is the same as the gold base on which the sentiment is stamped, but for contrast it is colored with brown and gold dabs of ink, then run through a Darice Crackle EF. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up, Bloomin' Marvelous Collection. The butterfly is die cut (Spellbinders Papillon Two) from the same blue paper as was used to back the gold piece, the punched flowers and the blue strip on the bottom of the card, only it is stamped with darker blue ink to make it stand out more; then it is glued and glittered to add sparkle.

Here is the card:

Deuteronomy 3:24

Today I am posting a blue sparkly glittery card to usher in warmer weather and the upcoming spring season.

I have this luscious blue shimmery glittery blingy paper that was bought from Michael's last year, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to show off its brilliance. The different facets catch and reflect lots of different shades of blue and turquoise. A piece of it is laid on white cardstock. Also, there is this turquoise felt-like flower border that has just been lying around in my craft room waiting for a chance to be used. To make it stand out from the turquoise background, it is placed on top of a strip of white vellum; likewise, the sentiment (which is printed from my computer) is framed in white vellum. Both the vellum frame and the sentiment cardstock were punched with a corner rounder punch. A Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish die is used to cut a white vellum leafy vine; the three-layered butterfly (Spellbinders Wonderful Wings) is cut from gold vellum for a final touch.

Here is the card:

Psalm 84:10 (2)

Today I am posting the second picture I made for my daughter at her request, using a favorite Bible verse of hers. It is the same verse as the previous post; this one is done in gold tones and browns.

The verse is printed out from my computer and framed with three different papers using the Cricut cartridge "Elegant Edges." Michael's was having a sale on frames and mats, so it was a blessing to be able to take advantage of that.

Here is the picture:

Psalm 84:10 (1)

My daughter wanted me to make three pictures for her featuring a favorite Bible verse of hers, which is printed out from my computer:

For the  Lord God is a sun and shield:
the   Lord will give grace and glory:
no good thing will he withhold
from them that walk uprightly.
Psalm 84:10

The one I am featuring today is done in different shades of red; it is made using the Elegant Edges Cricut cartridge to cut out the shapes. The verse is backed with three different patterned papers. I took it to Michaels and bought the frame and the mat:

Inscribed - Isaiah 49:16

Today is a day for looking toward the warmer days of Spring, and with all the bitterly cold weather in much of the country, many are feeling the same way, don't you think?

Starting out with white cardstock, a green layer was glued down. Then with a gingham stamp (Our Daily Bread) dabbed with three different green inks, I stamped some white cardstock. The sentiment (Stampabilities DR 1101) is framed in green cardstock, with "handles" made from a Spellbinders Fancy Framed Tags Two die. I used two Martha Stewart punches at the bottom:  a double row of Vine Trim and a row on top of them punched with some multi-colored glitter paper using the Cherry Blossom Trim punch. The flowers have rhinestones glued in the center of each one. There seemed to be an overwhelming amount of green on the card, so to counter that, a three-looped pink and white gingham bow was added, and two EK Success punched yellow butterflies.

Here is the card:

Peace on Earth with Snowflakes

Today is a special day because I got to have lunch with a very lovely friend who is one of the most beautiful Christian ladies on God's earth. She is a fellow crafter, and goes to a senior center once a month and helps the ladies make greeting cards. She does this at her own expense. The home does not reimburse her for any of her supplies. She has a true Christian heart of gold. Don't you just love to hang out with people like that? We had fun and laughed and traded stories of techniques we have tried and tools we have purchased and used. What fun! Sometimes God just graciously drops amazing people like Sony into our lives and we stand back and marvel at His goodness. She is a true treasure.

Now, on to today's card...  Blue is a very favorite color of mine. I seem to gravitate towards it without even trying. So in making this Christmas card, the combination of silver and blue was as easy as falling off a rock.

I started off with white cardstock. Then a four-layer piece of aluminum foil was run through a Daria snowflake embossing folder. Before running it through, I inked the background part of the folder with blue ink. I was surprised at how it came out, because, as usual, lots of things are an experiment in crafting.  :o)  It took FOR-EVAH to dry. Some of the ink came off during handling, so it is not as vividly blue as it was in the beginning. I even used a heat tool on it, and still am not sure that it is dry--lots of ink on my hands after handling it. Maybe by Christmas it will be completely dry and ready to mail!

A CTMH "Peace on Earth" stamp was used with blue ink and die cut out with a Spellbinders classic oval scallop die. The edges of the sentiment piece are embellished with a bit of translucent glitter glue, and some blue liquid pearls were added to the bottom. It is attached with pop dots for added dimension. A silvery blue bow was put at the bottom to finish off the card.

And here is a picture of it:

Blue Hues

I got a new Martha Stewart punch (Flowering Vine) and wanted to try it right away.

Starting out with white cardstock, I put on a blue and white striped paper which had also been inked with light blue ink all over. It is also edged in a darker blue to make it have some contrast against the white cardstock. There is blue faux stitching around the perimeter.

Next is the punch made from white cardstock; on top of that is a stamped sentiment which is die cut (Spellbinders Labels Two) and inked with dark blue ink around the edges. It is attached with pop dots for added dimension. Three rolled roses cut from a Cricut Flower Shoppe cartridge are added to three of the corners; a butterfly (Spellbinder Papillions Two) is placed in the other corner with pop dots. The greenery is from a Cheery Lynn die (Mini Fanciful Flourish). At the bottom is a ribbon and double-looped bow to finish off the project.

Luke 2:10-11

Well, sometimes my cards don't turn out as well as I had hoped, but that's the way it is, since every card is somewhat of an experiment and a learning experience. I got a new die in the mail yesterday--actually three of them, and it was exciting to get to use them. One was a small poinsettia bloom from Poppy Stamps, so it seemed fitting to make a Christmas card.

Starting out with white cardstock, a black layer was put down, then a black and white layer. On top of that is a textured gold paper. I had printed out Luke 2:10-11 on my computer and thought the text would fit nicely into the Memory Box frames I got, but the font was too big. When all was said and done, some of the text was obscured from view. I decided to use it anyway, and send it to someone who is familiar with the passage and who is not too judgmental about these kinds of things. (LOL). I am hoping they can mentally "fill in the blanks" from memory.  :o)

The second layer of framing is elevated with tiny little pieces of pop dots, and the poinsettia blooms are accented with greenery cut from a Martha Stewart Pine Border punch. The center of the poinsettias are glittered with gold.

Cheerful Happy Birthday Card

Today I made a whimsical little birthday card; seems there is more of a need for birthday cards than any other kind, so it is good to keep lots of them on hand so they are there if they are needed at a moment's notice.

Starting out with white cardstock, a green polka dot layer was added, then a layer of white that had been run through an EF, then inked with yellow ink using a brayer. A yellow polka dot layer was added at the bottom, then a strip of pink butterflies which are "glossed" to make them shiny. The flower was made of two different dies and layered. The patterned paper with a white background seemed a bit anemic, so I inked around the edges with some pink ink to make it stand out more. It is finished with a yellow brad and attached with a double layer of pop dots to make it more dimensional; a sprig of greenery is added.

Here is the card:

After looking at it awhile, it seemed to lack something, so I added a pink and white gingham bow to give it a more finished look:

To My Friend

Sometimes covering up a boo boo is a good thing.

Today I made a card, and it so happened that I made a bad ink mistake on the nearly-finished project. Don't you hate when that happens? I had stamped the card with pink ink and, although it did not show up very well, it was okay. However, as I was continuing to work on the card, the ink, which was not dry, smeared. I wiped off the pink ink, and since the ink color did not show up very well, after experimentation, a green ink was used. But the stamp did not stick well to the acrylic block and dropped (fully inked, of course) onto the card. Well, that was a disappointment.

I got out my Mini Fanciful Flourish die (Cheery Lynn) and made some green and white cuts from it and put them over the ink boo boo. It did not cover the mistake completely, but if you don't know to look for it, it may not be so noticeable.

The flower and leaves are from the Cricut cartridge "Flower Shoppe." The doily is from the Cricut cartridge "Sophia." They are placed on a pink strip cut with a Paper Studio border punch that is overlaid with lace from a spool of white 5/8" lace . The background papers are from a discontinued wallpaper book.

This card could be a birthday card, or a just because card.

Bloomin' Marvelous

Today I made a happy little pink, red and white card that can be used for a birthday card, or a just because card.

Starting out with white cardstock, a pinkish red plaid paper was laid on top. I got a new toy today and wanted to use it--it is a new large border punch module for the Fiskars AdvantEdge Punch System called "Ironworks." This was punched from white cardstock and glued on top of the plaid paper. A red flower die cut from Spellbinders Flowers and Flourishes dies was attached with a very thick pop dot, and a large rhinestone was glued in the middle of it. Another product I had never used was a "Bloomin' Marvelous" stamp from Stampin' Up. It is stamped in pink, and the edges of the sentiment are also inked with pink ink. A pink and white ribbon and bow are placed at the bottom.

Here is the card:

Spring Birthday

Today I am getting out of the winter doldrums and heading toward spring with this card design. It's been so cold in many parts of the country; maybe I am not alone when I wish for prettier weather.  :o)

Starting out with white cardstock, a green polka dot paper was glued down. A doily from a recently visited restaurant was added, then a green vine was place vertically on top of that. I had some assorted pre-packaged images from which I chose a blue flower. It needed something extra, so some blue glitter glue was slathered onto it. A large yellow-gold rhinestone was glued to the center of the card. The Happy Birthday punch was cut from white cardstock, colored with blue ink, then backed with more white cardstock. The whole piece was glittered to add more interest to the card. A double layered die cut butterfly was placed to the right of the flower. To finish off the card, blue liquid pearls and a bow were added.

Here is the card:
