I love black and white cards; they seem so crisp and fresh, with a lot of contrast. However, I have to be careful to not make a high percentage of the card black, because that would make it too morbid, because black is a very dark color (no pun intended!). This is a card with the hope of Spring with butterflies and flowers.
The Kensington Border (Memory Box) is so intricate that it will not show up unless the background piece is a strong contrast, so that's why black and white were chosen for the layout. I tried using the die with a patterned paper that was pink and white, but the design did not show up on a pink background or a white background; actually, any strong contrasting solid colors would look nice with this die, like red and white or a strong blue or purple, pink, etc., with a white background or contrasting color.
It was lightened up somewhat by a whimsical white ribbon and bow with black polka dots. The white background piece was embossed with a Darice Flower Frenzy EF. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up Bitty Banners. My husband thought it looked a little dark, so I sprayed it with Diamond Dust Glitter Mist and added some pearls on the top and in the center of the flowers. This is for our daughter, who lives very far away; we don't get to see her very often, but talk to her several times a week.
