Pink and Black

This week at Joan's Gardens (www.atjoansgardens.com) we are challenged to make a card with pink and black. I have to be careful with this one, because it is very easy for me to get heavy handed with the black and end up with a depressing card.  Here are the guidelines:

  • Use an embossed background
  • Use pink and black as your main colors
  • Use an oval
  • You must use a product sold at Joan's Gardens
  • Mention that you are doing the card/project for Joan's Gardens Challenge

Starting out with a white cardstock base, a black layer is glued on. Then, a light pink cardstock is embossed; with black ink and a brayer, the raised pattern is accentuated so that it stands out better.  Next, a black die cut lace border is placed on the bottom of the card. The sentiment is stamped and colored with a punch of hot pink for a focal point; it is mounted on a black oval, then on each side of the stamped image is a little pearl. It is mounted with dimensional stickies. To finish it off, I made a double loop pink bow and attached it on the diagonal to add a little more interest.

This challenge made me think, and got me out of my usual way of doing things. That is a good thing, because every once in awhile I need a little push to get out of my comfort zone.

Here is a picture of the card I am entering in Joan's challenge:

Here are the tools I used to make the card:

Spellbinders:  ES-004 Embossing Folder; S4-356 Floral Ovals
Cheery Lynn:  DL-134 Dancing Lace Border
Stampin' Up:  For the Birds Stamp
Stash:  Black Ink, Pink and Black Cardstock, Pink Ribbon, Pearls, Pink Marker

Items in pink can be bought from Joan's Gardens.

I am also entering this card at Word Art Wednesdays and QKR Stampede.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I always appreciate your visits.  As always, God's highest and best to you today and every day.

Many rich blessings,
